Thousands of Israelis marched through east Jerusalem in a contentious flag-waving procession on Sunday; despite Palestinian factions warning that the event could spark a fresh wave of confrontations.

Crowds waved Israeli flags as they marched from Damascus Gate; the primary entrance to Jerusalem’s Muslim Quarter, chanting “the nation of Israel survives” and “death to Arabs.”
Palestinian demonstrators were forcibly removed from the route by Israeli police in riot gear who blocked neighbouring roadways.
According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, 79 Palestinians were hurt in Jerusalem by rubber bullets, sound grenades, and pepper spray, while one protester was shot with live fire.
