NEW YORK (AP) — This Memorial Day weekend, which marks the start of the summer travel season, airline passengers are dealing with more than just price shock. They’re also coping with a backlog of cancelled flights.
According to flight tracking website FlightAware, more than 1,500 flights had been cancelled as of 9:50 p.m. EDT Saturday. On Friday, there were almost 2,300 cancellations.
Delta Air Lines took the brunt of the damage among US carriers, with over 250 flights, or 9% of its operations, cancelled on Saturday. Travel delays were severe at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, where Delta is based and has its largest hub.
