DAVOS: Israel President Isaac Herzog described his meeting with a delegation of Pakistani expats in the United States as a “wonderful experience.”
The Israeli president was speaking on the Abraham Accords, a US-backed pact that normalised Israel’s relations with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday.
Pakistan has refused to acknowledge Israel as a sovereign state from the beginning and has campaigned for a two-state solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict, which has been accepted by every administration that has come to power.
After the Abraham Accords were signed in August 2020, Pakistan’s Foreign Office made it clear that it would not consider recognising Israel.
“A two-state solution in conformity with relevant UN and OIC resolutions, with the pre-1967 boundaries, and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of a viable, independent, and contiguous Palestinian State is necessary for just and enduring peace,” the Foreign Office said.
But, according to Herzog, the Abraham Accords are yielding on all levels of life, not only visits.
“I’ll tell you, you know, we’re witnessing that in all areas of life,” Herzog remarked in answer to a question from WEF President Brge Brende. We’re not talking about casual trips. We’re seeing interest across the board in terms of economics, science, and innovation, but I’ll tell you more about my own thoughts.”
Last week, Herzog met two delegations — Moroccans and Pakistani-Americans — who showed him the “huge shift” brought about by the Abraham Accords, according to the WEF president.
“One was a Moroccan delegation of young opinion leaders who had joined forces with an Israeli NGO on Facebook. They both came and sat with us for an hour, and it was incredible to hear about their experiences breaking down walls, going forward, and interweaving their lives.
A day after meeting with the Moroccan delegation, Israel’s president visited a group of “proud” Pakistani expats living in the United States, who live alongside individuals from various countries in their neighbourhood.

“And I must say, this was an incredible experience since we’ve never had such a large group of Pakistani officials in Israel before, and it all originates from the Abraham Accords, which allow Jews and Muslims to coexist in the region.”
The Foreign Office has yet to react to Geo.tv’s request for comment on Israeli President Binyamin Netanyahu’s remark about meeting the Pakistan-American group.
