The Chelsea deal is supposed to be finished on Monday after a “last and conclusive understanding” was reached with the consortium driven by Todd Boehly.
The Premier League and the UK government have supported the £4.25bn takeovers.
Chelsea was set available to be purchased in March before proprietor Roman Abramovich was endorsed over his connections to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
The club has been working under an extraordinary government permit which terminates on 31 May.
“Chelsea Football Club can affirm that a last and conclusive understanding was placed into the previous evening to offer the club to the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital consortium,” Chelsea said in an explanation on Saturday.
Abramovich, who purchased Chelsea in 2003, said he was “satisfied this search has now reached an effective resolution”.
He added: “As I hand over Chelsea to its new caretakers, I might want to hope everything works out for them of progress, both on and off the pitch.
“It has been a distinction that could only be described as epic to be a piece of this club – I might want to thank every one of the club’s past and current players, staff, and obviously fans for these unimaginable years.”
