Officials confirmed Friday that an unnamed youngster discovered dead in a suitcase in southern Indiana last month died of electrolyte imbalance.
The electrolyte imbalance was likely caused by viral gastroenteritis. According to the autopsy of the youngster, who was estimated to be around 5 years old. As per the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the disease is also known as vomiting and diarrhoea. Which can lead to dehydration.
Per the news announcement, the boy’s blood toxicology tested negative. According to the authorities, the postmortem report revealed no substantial traumatic injuries. Indicating that there was no anatomical cause of death.
“Detectives further noted that they have no evidence that leads them to suspect the infant was alive when placed in the suitcase. And that the youngster was dressed and clean,” police said in a statement.
The child’s body was discovered in a hard-shell bag with a “distinctive Las Vegas pattern on its front and rear” in rural Washington County. State police were asked to investigate when a homeowner spotted the luggage while mushroom hunting on April 16. And promptly contacted 911, according to the agency.
