Despite reports that the iPhone 14 would include huge enhancements, Apple, one of the world’s largest tech corporations, is apparently not expecting to sell any more iPhones this year than it did last year (via MacRumors).
While Apple’s prediction that sales of its most popular product would not expand isn’t exactly a canary in the coal mine (or a Waffle House closing) that the world will continue to get worse, it might be an indication that the business is gloomy about the state of things in the near future.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is requesting 220 million iPhones from its suppliers, which is equal to the number it asked in 2021. This is in contrast to some expert expectations that Apple would need to produce approximately 20 million more phones this year than last year.
It’s simple to understand why. The iPhone 14 Pro is likely to remove the notch (making it clear who has the new phone and who doesn’t, which wasn’t always the case with the iPhone 13), and Apple is expected to release a less costly large phone. It appears to be a winning formula.
However, if you add something disgusting to a good recipe, it will be destroyed. While some of us thought that the horror would stop in 2022, a war, continuing COVID-19 lockdowns, and increasing inflation put an end to that notion.
Apple’s projections aren’t infallible, of course. There have been several claims that it has slashed manufacturing after overestimating the number of phones it would require. It’s always conceivable that Apple is incorrect, and that despite everything, a large number of people will want to buy phones. Maybe the general public isn’t perceiving everything as bleak.
It may, however, go the other way. On Twitter, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that “iPhone 14’s challenges will come from the demand side instead of the supply side,” In other words, he believes Apple will be able to fulfil its production targets (albeit he admits it may be behind due to lockdowns), but even those targets may be overly ambitious.
