Ukraine and the United Kingdom will work together to eliminate the use of rape as a weapon of war. According to source, this is according to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the PGO, during a visit to London, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova discussed the issue of deterring Russian aggression through prosecution with Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Dominik Raab and Foreign Office’s Minister of State for South Asia, North Africa, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon.
The Prosecutor General praised the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union for forming an advisory committee on Russian war crimes.
Ukraine “desperately needs this tangible support immediately at the scene of war crimes,” Venediktova said.
“We’re also getting started with our British counterparts on addressing the use of rape as a weapon of war,” she said.
The parties also discussed collaborating “to address a significant issue for the entire world community in overcoming the aggressor’s impunity for war crimes.”
“What they did in Chechnya, Georgia, and Syria with impunity cannot go unpunished under Ukrainian law, especially international law,” Venediktova said.
