The Ukrainian Orthodox Church has appealed to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the presidents of local autocephalous churches to condemn the spiritual crimes committed by Russian Orthodox Church Primate Kirill and depose him from his throne.
According to reports, Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, issued the pertinent comment on Facebook on May 26.
“We must realise that every day of our life, regardless of where we are in Ukraine, is costly. Our defenders are now fighting for it on the front lines, and we all have a responsibility to fight for freedom, truth, and liberty – each in our own place, and via the ministry to which we have been called “metropolitan area
“Opposing the ideology of the ‘Russian world,’ this fascist, deadly philosophy, wrapped in a shiny garment of sermons by Kirill Gundyaev and his allies,” according to Epiphanius, is one of the key objectives of this conflict.
As a result, the recent Council of Bishops in Kyiv condemned this “ideology, which is propagated through the Moscow Patriarchate as a heretical teaching of ethnophyletism, that is, the division of the church on national grounds that are placed above everything,” according to the OCU president.
“It is no secret that Patriarch Kirill is one of the creators of the ‘Russian world’ ideology, its propagandist and promoter. The ideology itself, in my opinion, falls under the condemnation of ethnophyletism as a heresy by the Council of Constantinople in 1872. Accordingly, Kirill Gundyaev, as a co-creator and propagandist of the ‘Russian world,’ should be condemned if he does not renounce this heresy and show the fruits of repentance,” Epiphanius said.
