Grain shortages caused by the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine are “being felt on the African continent,” according to Gen. Christopher Cavoli, the nominee for the next top US general overseeing the US military presence in Europe.

On a recent trip to Kenya, Cavoli, who is presently the commander of US Army Europe-Africa; experienced the effects of the grain crisis.
“There had already been a huge influence.” We know that costs for basic consumables have surged in other nations, such as Tunisia. As a result, there is food insecurity in Africa, which is being exacerbated by a grain shortfall,” Cavoli explained.
While the shortfall is affecting Africa, it will “primarily be a European worry,” he noted, due to the “tight relationship” between African and European security concerns.
According to Cavoli, certain countries, such as Germany and Romania, have already begun to address the issue.
