In a speech to the Latvian parliament on Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced peace plans that would “appease” Russia.

“There are people who believe that not all nations matter, who believe that a nation may simply be disregarded in order to keep peace,” Zelensky added. “Even if it’s only a temporary truce, even if it’s an illusory truce. Even if it means tens of thousands of people are killed, hundreds of thousands are deported, or millions are displaced from their homes. That’s fine with them. Peace at the expense of others’ lives. This, however, should not be considered typical.”
