Amerie Jo Garza, a fourth-grader at Robb Elementary School, “died a Hero” while trying to find help for herself and her classmates, according to her grandma Berlinda Irene Arreola.

“You’re going to die,” the gunman warned the pupils, according to authorities and survivors, Arreola added. Amerie Jo took out her phone and dialled 911. “Instead of snatching it and shattering it or removing it from her, he shot her.” Her best friend was sitting next to her. “Her blood was all over her best buddy,” Arreola added.

According to The Daily Beast, Amerie Jo had received a certificate for making the honour roll earlier in the day. Her stepfather later appealed for aid on social media to locate Amerie Jo. He returned not long after to post another update.

“She’s been discovered. My tiny angel is now flying with the angels in the sky. Don’t take a single second for granted. Hug your loved ones. Inform them that you adore them. Amerie jo, I adore you.”
