32-year-old marries 17-year-old boy in India, commission asks for nullification of marriage

According to the Hindustan Times, a 32-year-old woman married a 17-year-old boy in Madhya Pradesh, India, but the state’s Commission for the Protection of Child Rights has requested that the marriage be declared null and void.

The commission has written to Singrauli’s district collector. The teen’s relatives claimed that the panchayat pushed the couple to marry. The woman claimed that the pair was having an extramarital affair and that she was expecting his child.

Balmukund Singh, the local chief, said the teenager’s family had agreed to the wedding because the woman had threatened to file rape accusations against him.

Her marriage was allegedly fixed with a different female, according to the boy’s relatives. The 32-year-old crashed the wedding on the day of the ceremony, stating she was pregnant with the boy’s child.

When the matter reached the panchayat, the local decision-makers, the boy was purportedly married to the woman.

The boy’s family was also allegedly ordered to allow the woman to reside with them by the panchayat. The woman later fled away with the boy, according to the teenager’s family.

“The father is blaming us for the marriage unnecessarily,” the village chief remarked.

SCPCR member Brajesh Chouhan stated, “It is prohibited to solemnise a marriage involving a juvenile.”

“We’ve also urged the superintendent of police to locate the youngster after his father reported him missing and filed a complaint against those responsible,” Chouhan added.
