A gym opens in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province

Afghanistan’s Kandahar province administration has built a gymnasium and turned it over to the regional Olympic committee, according to the state-run news outlet Bakhtar reported on Wednesday.

The newly opened gymnasium, which cost 50 million Afghani (560,000 US dollars), allows players to participate in martial arts, basketball, and other sports in the sports facility, according to the news agency.

“This is the first time such a gymnasium has been constructed in Kandahar province,” Bakhtar reported Mawlawi Ebrar Ahmad Labib, the head of Kandahar’s Olympic Committee, as saying.

Mawlawi Labib also committed to promote and develop athletics and sports in Kandahar province, according to the news agency.
