As the Quad Summit approaches, Biden insists on no change in US policy

“The position has not changed at all,” Biden said; a day after provoking China’s wrath by indicating that the US was willing to use military force to defend the island.

Quad Summit

President Joe Biden reaffirmed on Tuesday that the US stance on Taiwan has not changed; a day after angering China by signalling his willingness to use military force to preserve the self-governing island. “The policy has not changed at all,” he said after meeting with leaders of the Quad; an informal security organisation made up of the US, Australia, India, and Japan; that is considered as a counter to Beijing. Biden continued, “I stated that when I made my remarks yesterday.” Chinese and Russian warplanes flew in formation over the area during the meeting; forcing Japan and South Korea to scramble fighters in retaliation.
