The European Union has provided Ukraine with a total of EUR 4.5 billion in financial assistance since the beginning of a full-scale Russian invasion.
According to reports, this was stated by Deputy Head of the President’s Office Ihor Zhovkva, who spoke at a briefing on Monday.
“Since the beginning of Russia’s open war against Ukraine, the European Union has supplied EUR 4.5 billion in assistance,” he stated.
Ukraine received the second tranche of macro-financial aid worth EUR 600 million last week, according to Zhovkva.
He also stated that EUR 500 million was added to the European Peace Fund, which now stands at EUR 2 billion. The Fund uses money that EU member states can use to equip Ukraine with additional heavy armament, according to the official.
At the same time, Zhovkva underlined that the EU resolved last week to offer a new tranche of macro-financial aid to Ukraine worth up to EUR 9 billion, but that the EU Council and the European Parliament had yet to ratify it.
“This is an unparalleled sum that the European Union has ever granted to Ukraine and, most likely, any other third country,” Zhovkva added.
Ukraine is said to require an extra $5 billion each month to meet its present needs.
