ISLAMABAD: A five-day anti-polio immunisation drive has been launched across the country from today. During which around 39 million children under five years of age will be immunized across Pakistan and around 285,000 health workers will perform the task while witnessing strict SOPs for Covid-19.
While, releasing a video message at the inauguration of the polio campaign, Federal Minister for Health Abdul Qadir Patel said that the incumbent government is committed to eradicating polio from Pakistan and efforts are being made to eliminate the disease on an emergency basis.
Abdul Qadir said that they will get rid of polio from Pakistan, and access to vaccines is mandatory for all children to eliminate the virus. He also appealed to the parents to administer 2-drop-medicine to their children to save them from lifelong disabilities.
While addressing civil society, scholars and media, he said that they can play an effective role in eradicating polio. The purge of polio in Pakistan is a national cause. He said that the immunisation of polio is a religious and moral duty of all of us and effective strategies have been formulated wherever poliovirus is present.
He added that it should be noted that children up to five years of age are affected by polio, this disease makes children disabled for life, and even can cause death in children. This contagious disease can be cured by vaccinating children against polio.
