The Azovstal steel plant has been the final bastion of Ukrainian resistance in Mariupol.
Which is otherwise Russian-controlled. Russia claimed on Friday that the last Ukrainian fighters had surrendered; which would be a symbolic military victory for Moscow if accurate. The assertion has yet to be confirmed by Ukraine. It comes after a Ukrainian commander in Azovstal instructed forces to stop defending the city in order to save their lives. Meanwhile, Ukrainian families await word from loved ones who have left Azovstal.
