Albania’s defence minister announced on Saturday that the country had purchased anti-tank Javelin missiles to bolster its defences.

Albania signed a contract with US Lockheed Martin, according to Niko Peleshi; without stating the quantity of missiles, their cost, or when they would be delivered.

The missiles were purchased as part of the army’s modernisation efforts, according to Peleshi.

Lockheed Martin announced earlier this week that the US Army had granted two $309 million production contracts for Javelin missiles; and associated equipment and services. These contracts include over 1300 Javelin missiles purchased with funds from the recent Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, as well as orders from Norway, Albania, Latvia, and Thailand.
