PTI announces countrywide protests today against Shireen Mazari’s arrest

KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) announced countrywide protests on Saturday against arrest of senior PTI leader Shireen Mazari.

In a tweet, PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan said his party would hold the protest on Saturday and after PTI’s core committee meeting on Sunday, he would announce date for the long march.

“Our movement is completely peaceful but this fascist imported government wants to push the country towards chaos. As if sending the economy into tailspin wasn’t enough, they now want anarchy to avoid elections,” he tweeted.

He said PTI’s senior party leader Shireen Mazari had reportedly been violently abducted from outside her house by the fascist regime.

“Shireen is strong and fearless, if the imported government thinks it can coerce her by this fascism, they have miscalculated!” he wrote.

In a tweet, PTI leader Asad Umar asked the party workers to hold protest across Pakistan this evening against the illegal detention of Shireen Mazari.

Another PTI leader, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the PTI has called for nationwide protests against the arrest of Dr Shireen Mazari. “The workers are requested to take to streets at 7:00 pm across the country in light of directions of your local leadership,” he tweeted.

Police have allegedly beaten and arrested senior PTI leader Shireen Mazari on Saturday.

Shireen’s daughter, Iman Mazari said she was told that Anti-Corruption Wing personnel took her with them.

“Male police officers have beaten and taken my mother away. All I have been told is that Anti Corruption Wing Lahore has taken her,” Iman Mazari tweeted.

Quoting sources as saying, Bol news channel reported police were shifting Shireen Mazari to Lahore from Margalla Hill police station.

Iman Mazari termed this act of law enforcers an abduction. She said her mother was tortured and she was not given any information. She said she did not exactly know as to who had taken her mother.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser said if the law enforcement agencies had any evidence against Shireen Mazari, then they should present them. He said the government could not crush the anti-government movement through such actions.
