Orban sees media control as a path to power

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told a convention of US conservatives on Thursday that the path to power requires them to have their own media outlets, calling for shows like Tucker Carlson’s to be shown “24/7.”

Orban, who was just elected to a fourth term, presented a 12-point plan for obtaining and consolidating power to a special conference of the US Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest, under the theme “God, Homeland, Family.”

With his fourth electoral victory on April 3, Orban declared that Hungary has been “completely healed” of “progressive dominance.”

He indicated that it was time for the right to band together.

“We have to take back the institutions in Washington and Brussels. We must find allies in one another and coordinate the movements of our troops,” Orban said on the first day of the two-day conference.

He told Republicans gathered at the Balna conference facility on the Danube’s banks that media clout was one of the keys to success.

In Hungary, the prime minister and his associates effectively control the majority of the country’s media channels, including state television.

“Have your own media. It’s the only way to point out the insanity of the progressive left,” he said. “The problem is that the Western media is adjusted to the leftist viewpoint. Those who taught reporters in universities already had progressive leftist principles.”
