Shots! Shots! Shots!, an action comedy written by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows and starring Momoa, has been picked up by the studio.
Momoa will also produce the feature film alongside Jeff Fierson, Dan Lin, and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, the studio behind the multibillion-dollar live-action Aladdin and the Oscar-nominated drama The Two Popes.
The plot is being kept under wraps, but the film is characterised as a family-oriented adventure with shades of James Cameron’s True Lies, Liam Neeson’s Taken trilogy, and Paramount’s recent smash The Lost City.
Mider and Burrows, as well as Rideback’s Ryan Halprin, will executive produce.
The project will be overseen by Universal Pictures executive vp Matt Reilly and creative development executive Jacqueline Garell.
Haunted Mansion, starring Owen Wilson and Rosario Dawson, is now in post-production and will be released on March 10, 2023. Easter Sunday, Amblin and Universal’s comedy starring comedian Jo Koy, which premieres Aug. 5, were also produced by the business.
In the 2018 Netflix comedy The Package, Mider and Burrows wrote about a trip gone bad. For Ryan Reynolds and his Maximum Effort company, they are producing the comedy Stoned Alone, a Home Alone reworking on a 20-something stoner. WME and Silver Lake Entertainment represent the pair.
Momoa, who is represented by WME, is presently filming Fast X, the next episode of the Fast and Furious franchise, in London. He’s also working on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will be released on March 17, 2023. Slumberland, a Netflix fantasy based on the Winsor McKay comic strips, is planned to premiere later this year.
