For the first time in seven years, Netflix has revised its culture rules.
The streaming platform’s amended standards advise staff to be prepared to work on content they may not agree with.
Anyone who does not agree with the type of content given on the site can leave, according to the business.
The streaming platform features a section under “creative expression” that explains the company’s ambitions to provide a diverse range of programs to its users.
“Rather than having Netflix block certain artists or voices, we let viewers decide what’s appropriate for them,” the firm claimed in its updated culture memo.
Netflix has stated that it values story diversity, “even if certain programs go counter to our own personal ideals.”
Netflix added, “Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful,” Netflix stated. “If you’d find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you.”
A Netflix spokeswoman explained that the firm has spent 18 months discussing cultural concerns with employees internally.
“Prospective workers (could) understand our viewpoint, and make more informed decisions about whether Netflix is the right organization for them,” she added.
Employees were also given the opportunity to provide comments on the new culture rules.
Netflix reportedly got over 1,000 comments, which were used to help create the new section of the letter.
Several new features are currently being developed for the video streaming platform in order to improve the overall user experience.
Netflix is considering bringing live streaming to the platform.
Stand-up specials, live comedy performances, and unscripted shows will be the first to benefit from the feature.
According to the article, the live streaming feature is now being tested.
In order to increase income, the streaming platform is also developing a mechanism to prevent password sharing.
Netflix has stated that it is working on creating a less expensive, ad-supported option in order to attract more subscribers.
