After maintaining and defending his long-standing links with Russia despite the war in Ukraine, Germany’s three ruling parties seek to deprive former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder of his office and personnel.

Schroeder’s own Social Democratic Party announced on Wednesday that MPs on the parliamentary budget committee had decided to connect some of the former German leader’s privileges to actual responsibilities rather than his standing as former chancellor.
On Thursday, they planned to present a proposal to lawmakers.
Due to his employment with Russian state-controlled energy businesses, Schroeder has become increasingly isolated in recent months.
