The war crimes trial of a 21-year-old Russian soldier was postponed until Thursday.

Vadim Shishimarin was the first person charged with war crimes since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

According to the prosecutor general’s office in Ukraine, he is suspected of killing an unarmed 62-year-old civilian in the Sumy area.

When asked how he pled, Shishimarin responded “totally” guilty.

The Russian soldier appeared in a glass box in front of dozens of cameras in a crowded courtroom in Kyiv.

When the court asked him to speak, he declined.

Shishimarin was spotted listening to his Ukrainian-Russian interpreter as the charges were read to him.

He was dressed in a blue-gray shirt with a shaven head.

Viktor Ovsyannikov, his defense lawyer, sat on the same bench as the interpreter.

The victim’s family was also present and expected to testify.
