Chris Pine’s directorial debut Poolman includes Ariana DeBose and Jennifer Jason Leigh

Ariana DeBose, an Oscar winner, and Jennifer Jason Leigh, who starred in The Hateful Eight, are slated to feature in Poolman, a mystery comedy directed by Chris Pine.

According to Deadline, the trio joins the already confirmed ensemble of Pine, Annette Bening, and Danny DeVito.

Pine will portray Darren Barrenman, a forlorn dreamer and would-be philosopher who spends his days in sunny Los Angeles tending to the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment building and crashing city council meetings with his neighbours Jack (DeVito) and Diane (Bening).

According to the official plotline reads,“When Barrenman uncovers the greatest water heist in LA history since Chinatown, he makes uneasy alliances with a beautiful and connected femme fatale while following every lead he can with corrupt city officials, burned out Hollywood types, and mysterious benefactors all in the name of protecting his precious Los Angeles.”

Pine will direct the picture, which he co-wrote with Ian Gotler, a partner at Pine’s production company, Barry Linen Motion Pictures. Along with Shiny Penny Productions’ Stacey Sher and Wicious Pictures’ Jenkins, the trio will produce.

Patty Jenkins, who collaborated with Pine on two Wonder Woman films and the television series I Am the Night, will serve as one of the film’s producers.

In Los Angeles, the cameras will begin rolling next month.
