We’re used to seeing Chris Hemsworth as the heroic Thor, but his character in the science fiction thriller Spiderhead appears to have a little of Thanos about him in the trailer.
The darkly comedic psychological thriller takes place in a future jail run by visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth), where inmates wear a surgically implanted device that administers dosages of mind-altering medicines in exchange for reduced sentences. No jail bars, cells, or orange jumpsuits are present. In Spiderhead, prison volunteers are free to be themselves.
Until they aren’t anymore. “Drip on?” Hemsworth’s character asks his (probably unwilling) victims in the teaser, hinting for a mind-bending experience. However, we have no idea what it means and will have to wait until June 17 to find out.

The clip portrays people devolving into drug-induced sex and violence to the stirring melodies of Minnie Riperton’s 1970 psychedelic classic Les Fleurs. Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett, however, are inmates who fight back… Spiderhead is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also helmed Tron: Legacy and Oblivion and whose Tom Cruise sequel Top Gun: Maverick will be released this month.
Meanwhile, this is Hemsworth’s second Netflix feature, following the action movie Extraction, which just wrapped production on its sequel. We don’t have a release date for Extraction 2, but we do know that Hemsworth will return as Tyler Rake. In July, Hemsworth will return to the big screen in the highly anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder.
