The top military command issued an order to commanders of forces defending the Azovstal steelworks, Ukraine’s last foothold in Mariupol, to “spare the lives of personnel.”
According to the source, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces made the announcement.
“Commanders of units stationed at Azovstal have been directed by the Supreme Military Command to spare personnel’s lives. The Ukrainian defenders who have been trapped on the plant’s grounds are being rescued “According to a statement released late Tuesday,
General Staff says, 53 critically wounded personnel were evacuated to a Novoazovsk medical facility, while another 211 defenders were transported to Olenivka via a humanitarian corridor and would be transferred to government-controlled territory via a POW exchange procedure.
The General Staff stated, “Measures to rescue defenders who remain in Azovstal are underway.”
Denys Prokopenko, the commander of the Azov Regiment, delivered a video message late Monday night in which he described his soldiers’ successful endeavour to distract the overwhelming enemy forces, allowing other units of Ukraine’s defense forces to regroup.
“The most important thing is to realize whether all the risks have been estimated, whether Strategy B has been devised, and whether you have really committed yourself to this plan, which should combine completing the mission while also preserving staff lives and health,” Prokopenko added. “War is an art, not a science,” Prokopenko stated emphatically.
