The US government is easing a few economic penalties against Venezuela; in an effort to encourage the resumption of talks between the US-backed opposition and President Nicolás Maduro’s government.
Two senior US government sources told The Associated Press late Monday that the restricted revisions will allow Chevron Corp. to negotiate its licence with Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, PDVSA, but not to drill or export any Venezuelan-origin petroleum. Because no formal statement had been made, the officials spoke on the condition of anonymity.
