The warning was issued on May 17, the annual International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia.

In the wake of a recent spike in charged discourse around LGBTQ issues around the country; President Joe Biden warned of “increasing hate and violence” against the LGBTQ community on Tuesday.
On the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, the president issued the warning. It is commemorated every year on May 17th, the anniversary when the World Health Organization abolished homosexuality as a mental disease in 1990.
“Since then, significant progress has been made,” the president stated in a statement. “However, we continue to see troubling setbacks, as well as an increase in hate and violence directed against LGBTQI+ individuals in the United States and around the world. This is incorrect.”
