Hundreds of dead Russian servicemen have been recovered by Ukraine and are being sent back to their families on a refrigerated train.
According to Volodymyr Lyamzin, Ukraine’s top civil-military liaison officer, the troops were brought from around the Kyiv region, the northern city of Chernihiv, and a number of other regions to a rail yard just outside the capital.
While no solid estimates of the number of Russian troops dead exist, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claims 27,000 soldiers have perished since the conflict began.
Body bags were being lifted into compartments by people wearing full-body protective suits.
Mr Lyamzin went on to say that other refrigerated trains were stationed in other parts of the nation for the same purpose.
Ukraine’s interior minister, Anton Garashenko, alleged that about 250 dead troops are heaped in the cars, and that Russia “is still not collecting up the remains.”
After weeks of severe bombing, Ukraine claims Russian forces have begun to evacuate from its second-largest city.
Following its failure to conquer Kyiv, Moscow sought to gain control of the country’s east, known as the Donbas. Kharkiv has been a primary goal for Moscow.
Troops, on the other hand, have struggled to gain any ground.
“The Russians haven’t achieved much in the way of tactical gains recently,” a Western official said, describing the front line of the fight as “oscillating.”
“Counterattacks continue to be launched by the Ukrainians, notably near Kherson and Kharkiv. We expect this to turn into a long war of attrition “Added the official, who requested anonymity.
