Officials in Mariupol have warned that a humanitarian crisis is brewing in the city, which is now nearly fully under Russian control.

“Drinking water is still out of reach. The majority of Mariupol inhabitants must travel a great distance to reach water supply stations (barrels or water carriers),” Petro Andryushchenko, an adviser to Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko, stated in a Telegram post.

“Food. The situation has remained unchanged. The number of traders from the area is growing. But the issue is that there isn’t enough money to buy this stuff,” he explained.

According to Andryushchenko, up to 170,000 Mariupol inhabitants are without electricity and have no way out of the city.
