Wanda Sykes: Will Smith’s Oscar Slap has left her “traumatised”

Wanda Sykes has spoken out again again over Will Smith’s stunning incident with Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards. Sykes claimed that she hasn’t properly digested the situation when performing standup in Orlando on Thursday. Sykes, along with Amy Schumer and Regina Hall, was one of the three female hostesses of the 94th Academy Awards.

Wand stated during her standup, via ET Canada, Sykes disclosed, “I’m still traumatized,” and added, “I can’t talk about it. I get emotional.”

She went on to say how she felt after the event, and Smith refused to leave the building, even winning the Best Actor Award minutes later, “I couldn’t believe he was still sitting there, like an a**hole,” and continued to joke, “Shouldn’t you be sitting there with a lawyer or LAPD, motherf**ker?”

Later, Sykes noted, “I hope he gets his s**t together. Until then, f**k him.”

Smith has apologised for his behaviour after the incident, and following his public statement, the actor resigned from his role as a voter at the Academy to demonstrate his contrition. Smith was barred from attending the Academy Awards for the following ten years as a result of his outrageous behaviour on Hollywood’s greatest night.

For those who are unaware, at the 2022 Oscars, when presenter Chris Rock made an offensive joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s autoimmune illness, the Men in Black star jumped up and smacked the comedian on stage while the ceremony was live-streamed across the globe.
