The Duchess of Cornwall is Book Aid International’s new Patron, the organisation declared.
Book Aid International is the world’s largest book donation and library support organisation. Every year, the charity collaborates with UK publishers and a global network of partners to provide more than one million brand new books to refugee camps, schools, community libraries, jails, and hospitals throughout the world where people would otherwise be unable to read.
Duchess Camilla is well-known for her personal love of reading, championing the significance of books, and supporting causes that promote reading and literacy for all, according to the statement. During a visit to The Gambia in 2018, Her Royal Highness first witnessed the impact of Book Aid International’s efforts.

Dr Alice Prochaska, Chair of Book Aid International, shared the thoughts of the entire Book Aid International team on this historic day, saying:
“Book Aid International has always worked with its partners to provide access to books in areas where they are most needed – and with those books comes the opportunity for learning and literacy to thrive.” We’ve modified our strategy to focus even more on this core objective, and we’re devoted to sharing the power of books with the world’s most vulnerable people, particularly women and girls, as well as people escaping violence. Her Royal Highness is an outspoken supporter of the importance of reading for all people. It is very meaningful and honouring that she has agreed to be our Patron.
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was the charity’s previous Patron from 1966 until his death in April 2021. His Royal Highness paid a visit to the charity’s London warehouse, attended several of its events, and was an avid reader. Lord Paul Boateng, the charity’s Vice Patron, has seen Prince Philip on several occasions:
“I witnessed firsthand the impact of His Royal Highness Prince Philip’s patronage on Book Aid International and its activities, and I am delighted that our proud tradition of Royal Patronage will now be continued.” Her Royal Highness has shown us gratitude and honour. The support of the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as her personal work in promoting the love of books and writing in the Commonwealth, is greatly appreciated.
“I am happy to have received The Duke of Edinburgh’s patronage,” Duchess Camilla remarked.
