Hurricane Hunters from the United States Air Force in hot water after landing on Martha’s Vineyard

The crew of a WC-130 Hercules freight jet was disciplined by the US Air Force when the plane stopped at Martha’s Vineyard to pick up a personal motorbike. “We hold our reservists to the greatest standards of conduct, and these activities are not permitted,” said Stuart Rubio, commander of the 403rd Wing.

In March, the team was traveling from Mississippi to Rhode Island. Before proceeding to its eventual destination, the jet made an unauthorized stop in Martha’s Vineyard to pick up the motorbike. Each member of the crew had their credentials reduced and will have to earn their way back.

The group was part of the “Hurricane Hunters,” a special task unit that monitors and responds to hazardous storms. The crew’s Hercules aircraft is outfitted with a multitude of sensors and computers for weather monitoring.

The major general accused of three counts of sexual misconduct was convicted on one charge in Ohio on Saturday, the branch’s first-ever conviction of a general.

During a weeks-long court-martial at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, Maj. Gen. William Cooley was found guilty by a military judge of forcefully kissing a lady — a citizen who is not a Department of Defense employee – and acquitted of two alleged forced touching events.
