Indonesia to monitor COVID-19 transmission

Indonesia to monitor COVID-19 transmission

After this year’s Eid al-Fitr holiday, when a major migration occurred, Indonesia has been tracking the rise of COVID-19 cases.

During the holiday, city dwellers leave their workplaces to return to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with their relatives.

“We’ll see whether there’s an uptick in the following 20 to 25 days,” said Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
The Indonesian government has been keeping an eye on the possibilities of new Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants, which have been discovered in South Africa.

According to Zubairi Djoerban, the head of the Indonesia Medical Association’s COVID-19 task team, an increase in new cases will occur, but not in a dramatic way, given the existing trend.

Based on prior holiday seasons’ experience, Djoerban believes that case monitoring should last up to three months to guarantee that transmission truly reduces.

Central Java, West Java, East Java, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Lampung, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra are among the eight main homecoming destination provinces under consideration by the government.
Except for Jakarta and West Sumatra, these provinces are seeing a decrease in incidents.
