In his address to the 46th UEFA Congress, Gianni Infantino appealed for unity and commended the governing body of European football for its positive contributions to discussions about the game’s future.
“Football brings people together,” remarked FIFA President Sepp Blatter. “I’m confident that by working together, we can advance European and worldwide football while also making our small contribution to society.”
The new arrangements for men’s club competitions revealed on Tuesday, according to FIFA President Sepp Blatter, demonstrate how UEFA is continuously evolving and progressing – something he admits FIFA has not always done.
“This is an opportunity that – as FIFA President – we’ve probably missed in previous decades and that we’re trying to avoid missing again by thinking about how we can improve football,” he said.
“I would like to thank, in addition to congratulating, UEFA and the UEFA President for the constant discussion, dialogue, constructively trying to reach solutions which will help world football, will protect, not only protect, but develop and boost further European and global football,” he said, referring to the future of football discussions.
He described the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar as “a celebration of togetherness and bringing the world together,” as well as a “really unique” World Cup.
He cited recent attendance records for women’s football matches in Spain and France, calling them “certainly a terrific, great indicator for the future.”
Gianni Infantino reiterated his call for peace in Ukraine, saying that football cannot solve the world’s issues, but it can help.
“We need peace, and when peace comes, football will be in the forefront, bringing back this unity and togetherness, bringing people back together: the boys and the girls, the young and the old,” he stated.
