According to The Tribune, an electrician from Bihar, India, shut off the town’s electricity to meet his girlfriend in the dark.

The individual was apprehended by residents of Ganeshpur village in the Purnia region of eastern Bihar.

The villages have been experiencing two to three hour power outages every day around the same time in the evening.

Residents suspected something was awry because their neighbouring villages were not affected. After further investigation, investigators discovered that the individual was cutting electricity to meet his love interest.

The villagers had devised a plot to capture the criminal in the act. They arrived at the government school after the electricity went out, when the pair was captured together.

According to witnesses, the man was beaten and paraded through the streets as a punishment. Later on, however, he married his sweetheart.

“The man married the girl in front of the Sarpanch and other members of the village council,” said villager Marar Ram Murmu.
