According to The Telegraph, Spain is considering allowing women a three-day absence from work each month if they are experiencing severe menstruation pain.
As a result, Spain will be the first Western country to give the benefit.
Only Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, and Zambia provide menstrual leave. The policy is also used by several companies in the United States.
According to the Spanish Gynaecology and Obstetrics Society, about a third of menstrual women experience severe abdominal discomfort, headaches, diarrhoea, and fever during their period.

“Just as someone with a severe disease is granted a temporary incapacity, so a woman with a particularly painful period should be allowed to stay at home,” stated Secretary of State for Equality Angela Rodriguez.
According to the Telegraph, the amendment will be voted on next week.
Other provisions in the reform bill that affect women’s health include the provision of sanitary pads in schools for girls and the removal of VAT from the sale price of sanitary pads and tampons.
