Inter Services Public Relations Pakistan (ISPR) on Thursday strongly reacted to the statements of the political leaders against Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed.
In the statement, the military media wing said the recent statements regarding Peshawar Corps Commander by the politicians are inappropriate. The statement said that the leadership of this important corps has always been entrusted to the best professionals.
The ISPR said that such statements negatively impact the integrity of the Pakistan Army. It added that the Peshawar Corps is a distinguished formation of the armed forces and spearheading national war against terrorism for over two decades.
Further, DG ISPR said that the appointment of the new army chief will be made in accordance with the law and constitution.
He added that irrelevant discussion on the matter is analogous to making the process controversial.
DG ISPR said, “It is inappropriate to invite the army to conduct the elections.” He said that the constitution binds the armed forces to refrain from politics.
Recently, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz and PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari lampooned the former ISI chief Faiz Hameed to which ISPR has responded today.
Even earlier in the day, responding to a question regarding Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed; of whom Maryam Nawaz has been quite critical and believes he was the one who brought Imran Khan to power through rigging in the 2018 elections, she replied that the chief of army staff (COAS) should be a person who is non-controversial, competent, and free of any allegations.
She had also lampooned the serving corps commander in a PML-N public rally in Fateh Jang last week.
Further, in response to a question yesterday, former president Asif Ali Zardari said that Faiz Hameed had been ‘sidelined’.
