Oman, welcoming Russian FM, says committed to OPEC+ agreement

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Oman on Wednesday, a fellow member of the OPEC+ oil producing alliance, and met with the Gulf Arab state’s governing sultan, according to Omani official media.

While advocating moderation and diplomacy to settle the situation, US-allied Gulf governments have not taken sides in the Russia-Ukraine war. Gulf oil companies had also rejected Western pressure to pump more oil in order to further isolate Moscow.

According to official media, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi informed his Russian colleague that Muscat was committed to OPEC+ output agreements and backed all international efforts to rescue the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

Indirect US-Iranian talks to revive the pact have stalled.

Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia are the other parties to the accord, which Washington quit in 2018 and reimposed US sanctions, prompting Tehran to gradually breach various nuclear restrictions the deal imposes.
