Finland should look in the mirror if it decides to join NATO to improve its own security, according to Finnish President Sauli Niinisto.

Niinisto stated at a press conference after signing a mutual defence cooperation agreement with Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson that his country, along with Sweden, had not aligned with either NATO or Russia “of our own free choosing.”
Russia was “saying that you don’t have your own will here” by announcing that Finland and Sweden could not join the alliance, according to Niinisto. “That got us thinking.”
He stated that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “showed they are ready to attack a neighbouring country.”
If Finland joins NATO and Russia questions why, Niinisto says he will tell them, “You caused this, look in the mirror.”
