Ukraine’s gas pipeline operator announced on Wednesday that it will halt the supply of Russian natural gas; through a critical hub in the country’s east, which is now under Russian control.

The operator, GTSOU, said in a statement that it “cannot exercise operational and technological control” over the Novopskov compressor station in Luhansk; which handles around a third of Russian gas passing through Ukraine on its way to Europe.
The operator stated that the gas would be diverted to a plant in Ukraine’s control in the south.
The European Union is attempting to win a ban on Russian oil imports to its 27 member nations; with the goal of putting a strain on Russia’s budget.
