Newlywed bride dies by suicide after being upset for absence of toilet at husband’s home

According to India Times, a 27-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu, India, committed herself after becoming frustrated with her husband’s failure to install a toilet in the house.

Ramya, a pharmacist who works at a private hospital in Cuddalore, had been married to her husband, Karthikeyan, for over two years. On April 6, they eventually married.

Ramya returned to her mother’s house a day after the wedding because her husband’s house had no functioning toilet.

Karthikeyan soothed her by promising to rent her a house with a toilet. He allegedly never followed through on his pledge.

On May 10, Ramya, discouraged and dissatisfied, attempted suicide. Her mother discovered her trying to breathe, hanging from her sari.

She was brought to the hospital and remained there for two days before passing away on Tuesday.

Ramya’s mother filed a complaint against Karthikeyan at the Thiruppadhiripuliyar police station.

Her father, who did not approve of the marriage and had not attended any of the celebrations, is being investigated further by police.
