United States House of Representatives passed a bill, providing $40 billion to support Ukraine

The House of Representatives passed Bill H.R. 7691, which authorizes an additional $40 billion in funding to respond to Russia’s actions against Ukraine.

368 legislators voted in favour of the bill, while 57 voted against it. According to source the bill will now be sent to the Senate.

According to the bill’s author, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Ukraine requires immediate assistance, and the US is “morally bound” to deliver it in order to help halt the tragic loss of life, bring Putin and his allies to justice, and preserve world democracy.

The measure aims to assist Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and democracy, holding Russian officials accountable, addressing global food

On April 28, US President Joe Biden presented a proposal to Congress to extend a fresh package of responses to Russia’s actions, which included a $33 billion support package for Ukraine. Legislators recommended modifications to the bill as it was being developed, including several billion dollars for food aid and military equipment for Ukraine.

The bill must be approved by the Senate and signed by the President before it can take effect.

Biden signed a lend-lease law on Monday, expanding the possibilities for initiating an accelerated assistance programme for Ukraine. At the same time, genuine instruments and decisions to allocate the appropriate cash are required in order to implement the help.
