Ukraine puts a halt to some Russian gas deliveries to Europe

Ukraine’s gas transmission system operator (GSTOU) announced on Tuesday that it will suspend some Russian gas exports to Europe that flow through its pipelines.

Ukraine has continued to transfer Russian gas through the nation despite Russia’s invasion.

GSTOU stated it is currently “difficult to fulfil obligations” to European partners owing to “occupying military involvement.”

Russia’s meddling, including unauthorized gas offtakes, it claimed, had “endangered the stability and safety” of Ukraine’s gas transportation infrastructure.

It decided to shut down operations at the entry point gas measuring station Sokhranivka and the border compressor station Novopskov.

It transports about a third of the gas from Russia to Europe, up to 32.6 million cubic meters per day.

Ukraine stated that temporarily unavailable capacity from Sokhranivka might be transferred to the Sudzha point in Ukraine-controlled territory.

However, Russia’s national energy company Gazprom stated that switching gas supplies to Ukraine to a new entry site was “technologically impossible.”
