ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday dismissed the references of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking ineligibility of its 20 deviant MNAs.
A three-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) gave the reserved verdict on the references against 20 dissident members of PTI.
In its verdict, the ECP said the PTI failed to provide evidence against members and the allegations levelled in the references sent by National Assembly (NA) speaker could not be proved.
The verdict read that it could not be proved that the members violated the party policy nor that they joined any other political party. ECP said that it could not either be proved that the MNAs cast their votes against the party policy.
On the occasion, PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry announced that they would file an appeal against the decision of the ECP.
He demanded the electoral body provide a copy of the verdict. He said the case has become controversial, and some things did not come on record properly.
