In response to the lack of a major escalation announcement in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “Victory Day” speech Monday; US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield told that Putin “has recognised he has no victory to celebrate”; but she added that he also gave no indication that he plans to end the war.

In her initial reaction to Putin’s address, Thomas-Greenfield remarked that the Russian leader did not use his Monday statements to declare a pullout from Ukraine; which would have been welcomed by the US, and which she claimed implies that Putin’s conflict will continue.
“There was no justification for (Putin) to either proclaim victory or declare a war that he has already been carrying on for more than two months.”
“His attempts in Ukraine have failed,” she declared. “He wasn’t able to go into Ukraine and bring them to their knees and have them submit in a matter of days.”
“The fight is definitely not done,” Thomas-Greenfield stated.
“He didn’t announce his departure. She told that he “didn’t announce an agreement with the Ukrainians.” “So I believe, and we all believe, that this will be a long-term struggle that will go for months.”
Furthermore, Thomas-Greenfield told that saying the US “welcomed” Putin’s words today would be too extreme; this is because the “unconscionable attack on the Ukrainian people” continues.
“So pulling Putin’s soldiers out of Ukraine; bringing this awful conflict to a stop would be a great indication,” she added.
