Max Verstappen returned to the Sunshine State just over eight years after making his professional racing debut in the Florida Winter Series, with the goal of winning again. He achieved his target after 57 laps in Miami on Sunday.
Verstappen won the Miami Grand Prix, holding off a late challenge from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Verstappen won his second race in a row, just weeks after winning the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Italy.
Leclerc came in second, while Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz finished third and took the final podium slot.
Verstappen now trails Leclerc by 19 points in the drivers’ standings, with Leclerc leading by 104–85 points. Sergio Pérez, Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, is in third place with 66 points. Mercedes’ George Russell (59 points) and Sainz (53) complete the top five.
