Poisoned homemade alcohol has killed 10 people in southern Iran.
Several others are in serious condition.
On Sunday, Fatemeh Nowruzian, a spokesperson for Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, informed that nine men and one woman had died in the coastal city of Bandar Abbas.
19 others had been hospitalized, four of them were in severe condition.
75 people have been sent to hospitals with signs of alcohol poisoning.
There have been 45 people requiring dialysis and four suffering from vision impairment.
Eight people were arrested earlier this month on suspicion of making and distributing alcohol after it was discovered in their homes during searches.
Over the years, poisoning from dangerous homemade alcohol has resulted in blindness or serious organ damage in those who consume it.
The hazardous material that caused the most recent deaths was not identified by Nowruzian.
People have died in the past as a result of fatal quantities of methanol added to homemade beverages.
During the epidemic in 2020, Iran had an unprecedented amount of alcohol poisonings, with over 700 individuals dying as a result of consuming methanol in the misguided belief that it would help eradicate the coronavirus.
