Keep army out of politics in country’s best interest, warns ISPR

Taking exception to the unlawful and unethical practice of dragging the military in the country’s internal politics, the Armed Forces expect all to abide by the law and keep them out of political discourse in the best interest of the country.

According to ISPR, recently there have been intensified and deliberate attempts to drag Pakistan Armed Forces and their leadership in ongoing political discourse in the country.

It said these attempts are manifest through direct, insinuated or nuanced references to the Armed Forces as well as their senior leadership, made by some political leaders, few journalists and analysts on public forums and various communication platforms including social media.

This practice of unsubstantiated, defamatory and provocative statements and remarks is extremely damaging.

However, the ISPR statement did not specify which incident or incidents it was referring to.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former minister Hammad Azhar on Sunday said that the sovereignty and economy of the country are under attack.

He lambasted the incumbent government for their economic policies and said both inflation and interest rates have reached their optimum point.

Azhar took to Twitter and wrote that the country receives no help from friendly countries and the IMF issue still remains unclear while the Finance Ministry has seen tensions between London and Islamabad.

He went on to say that there was no such crisis in Pakistan until two months ago adding that the sovereignty and economy of the country were attacked.
